Harpenden Colts Old Boys Reserves, sponsored by Bretherton Law, picked up their first ever silverware with a 3-2 victory over Blacksmiths in the Herts Advertiser Intermediate Cup Final. The game was carried forward from the shortened 2019-20 season, brought to an abrupt end by the Covid-19 outbreak. Cheered on by an enthusiastic group of parents, friends and girlfriends at London Colney FC’s Cotlandswick Park ground, the Old Boys were holding a 2-0 lead until late in the second half before two quick goals from Blacksmiths brought the game back to 2 goals each. Harpenden Colts Old Boys Reserves were not to be denied, however, and a dramatic 89th minute winner from Jay Loader sealed the win. Although half a dozen members of the squad have been playing together since they joined Harpenden Colts youth football club at the age of six, the Old Boys Reserves team was only formed at the start of last season. With their first medals in the trophy cabinet, we hope their run of success continues.
